Hobby Master 1/72 Air Power Series HA3817 is this superb 1/72 scale diecast model of Lockheed F-16A Netz 107 of "First Jet Squadron" in 1981. Production limited to only 1,200 units worldwide.
On June 7, 1981 a raid on the Iraqi Osirak nuclear reactor under construction was executed by the IDF/AF. Called “Operation Opera” it consisted of 8 F-16A Netz loaded with 2,000 pound bombs and 3 external fuel tanks and a pair of air-to-air missiles. The bombs were dropped and all aircraft returned safely. One of the F-16 Netz was #107 of the First Jet Squadron that would later become the most successful aircraft of this type when in 1982 it shot down 6.5 Syrian MiGs.
The F-16 Fighting Falcon was produced by General Dynamics who became Lockheed who then merged with Martin Marietta to become Lockheed Martin. The F-16 entered service in January 1979 as a multi-role jet fighter that evolved into an all-weather multi-role aircraft capable of sustaining 9-g turns. The F-16 is relatively inexpensive to purchase and maintain so the U.S. and 25 other countries added it to their inventory. The Fighting Falcon is referred to by its pilots as the “Viper” and will remain in USAF service until 2025.
